Two relievers now two starters – two different results

by Bill Chuck on April 11, 2012

Last night, Daniel Bard made his debut as a Red Sox starter after a short but successful career as an 8th inning bridge to the closer. Also last night, Neftali Feliz made his debut as a Rangers starter after a short but successful career as a closer.

You can spin at as much as you want, but Bard looked like a #5 starter as he threw five innings and was charged with five runs on eight hits, and one walk while striking out six. Yes, he looked like a major league pitcher but he did not raise a lot of spirits following the Sox loss to the Jays last night, 7-3.

Meanwhile, Texas looks as if they have added a weapon in their arsenal. Granted he was facing the Mariners, but Seattle had roughed up Yu Darvish the night before. Feliz looked poised and in command. He went seven innings and allowed four hits and two walks, and struck out four and combined with Mike Adams and Joe Nathan to toss a 1-0 shutout.
