Third baseman news

by Bill Chuck on December 10, 2012

The Phils did not get younger, but did get Michael Young as their third baseman in a trade with the Texas Rangers. The trade required Young to waive his 10-and-5 rights. The Rangers will pick up more than half of Young’s $16 million salary for 2013.

It is significantly more likely that Kevin Youkilis will be joining the New York Yankees after the Indians signed free agent third baseman/first baseman Mark Reynolds to a one-year, $6 million contract. The Indians were interested enough to offer a two-year deal to Youk. There are reports that the Dodgers (of course) and Mariners have interest in Youkilis.

The Yanks are also after Ichiro Suzuki, like Youk, for a one-year deal.
