Blown Save of the Night

by Bill Chuck on June 20, 2013

Jason Grilli had been perfect this season going 25-25 in save opportunities and need one more save to tie Joel Hanrahan‘s 2011 club record to open a season.

As the Pirates have said so frequently, “Wait ’til next year.”

Jay Bruce hit a solo homer in the 9th sending the game into extras enabling Brandon Phillips to hit a bases loaded walkoff single in the 13th inning to give the Cincinnati Reds a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It was the first homer Grilli had allowed this season.
