I look for any excuse to write about Heinie Manush. I mean who can’t love the name “Heinie Manush?”

This past Sunday, a historical marker in honor of Hall of Famer and Shoals native Heinie Manush was unveiled at the Manush home in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

Heinie Manush was born and raised in the 1005 E. Third St. house, where his niece Norma Manush and her brother, Frank Manush, currently live.

The marker was placed by the Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation, who wrote about the player whose full name was Henry Emmett Manush. The family was of German ancestry, and Heinie is the German form of Henry.
