Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler take two

by Bill Chuck on June 19, 2013

Two potential aces: Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler led the Mets to a doubleheader sweep of the Atlanta Braves.

In the opener, Harvey didn’t allow a hit until the 7th inning, and even then it was a scratch infield hit, and struck out a career-high 13 as New York held off the Braves 4-3.

In the nightcap, Wheeler, in his major league debut, tossed six scoreless innings to lead the Mets to a 6-1 victory. Wheeler allowed four hits, walked five and struck out seven.

Harvey became the 56th Met pitcher to strike out 13 in a game.
