by Bill Chuck on June 24, 2013

Take a few minutes to savor this look at 1st inning scoring, there is much to ponder, talk about and write about.

Nine to Know

  1. There is no more shocking number this season than the fact that in 76 games the Texas Rangers have scored on 18 runs while hitting just .202.
  2. It’s fascinating that there is only four run differential between the two leagues in scoring.
  3. Four hits, five home runs, and one walk separate the 1st innings for each league.
  4. Each league is hitting about the same, but Boston and and Colorado are crushing it in the 1st.
  5. The Mariners have hit 16 1st inning homers but Royals just two.
  6. Not included here are the 14 stolen bases the Pirates and the Rockies have pulled off in the 1st inning.
  7. The Phils have been caught stealing five times in the 1st.
  8. The Cardinals are fifth in the majors in 1st inning runs despite banging into 14 double plays, the Astros have only hit into one.
  9. The Braves and Astros each have 90 1st inning whiffs and 34 strikeouts to end the inning.
