Blown Save of the Day

Adam Jones hit a two-run 9th inning homer against Mariano Rivera and the Orioles beat the Yankees, 2-1, ending New York’s longest winning streak of the season at six.

Mariano, who will close the All-Star Game regardless of the score, insulted the baseball gods by wearing high socks to show his support for teammate David Robertson, his 8th inning bridge, who is involved in the bonus fan voting for the ASG and blew just his second save in 31 attempts.

Rivera had converted 41 saves in a row at home since his last blown save on September 26, 2010, against Boston. It was the second-longest streak of his career behind a stretch of 51 consecutive converted save chances at home from 8/18/07-4/30/10

Rivera has now allowed two homers this season, the first to Evan Longoria on April 23 at Tampa Bay and his first allowed at Yankee Stadium since August 11, 2011 when Russell Branyan of the Angels took him deep.

Mo’s 2-1 losses

Rivera has been the losing pitcher in six 2-1 games, two this season, but this was the first in which both runs he allowed were earned.
