Josh Hamilton has a rare multi-homer game

by Bill Chuck on July 11, 2013

Yesterday, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn denied state lawmakers their paychecks because of their failure on pension reform, which should make Chicago’s  Jeff Samardzija glad that Quinn is not his boss.

Last night, Samardzija allowed nine hits and tied a career high by giving up nine runs, including four homers, in 4.2 innings as the Angels clobbered the Cubs, 13-2.

Josh Hamilton had his first multi-homer game with the Angels by banging two dingers but, much to my surprise, multi-homer games for Hamilton are pretty rare, he’s only had eight in his career.

While Hamilton has had a four-homer game, he’s never had a three-homer game

  • Hamilton and Albert Pujols hit back-to-back home runs for the first time and it was only the second game in which they both homered as teammates. Mark Trumbo and Brendan Harris also homered for the Angels.

It was the 23rd game this season in which one team hit five homers.
