Lester and the Sox control the Rays

by Bill Chuck on July 24, 2013

Jon Lester seems to thrive on nine days rest. Lester (9-6) pitched 7.1 really strong innings as the Red Sox stopped the Rays, 6-2. The loss ended the Rays’ six-game winning streak.

Lester allowed seven hits, two runs, and tied a season-high with eight strikeouts.

He walked no one, the same for Matt Thornton, Junichi Tazawa, or Koji Uehara who were perfect in relief.

How important is a walk-free game?

So far this season, there have been 229 games in which a team has held their opponents without a walk.

Teams are 156-73 in those games.

The Nationals have had the most games in which they have held opponents without a walk, but their 7-6 record is not reflective of that pitching
