Max Scherzer’s Three Streaks Continue

by Bill Chuck on July 4, 2013

Max Scherzer worked into the 7th inning to reach the 13-0 mark as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Blue Jays, 6-2.

Scherzer allowed two runs and seven hits, struck out eight and walked one in 6.1 innings.

He’s the first pitcher to begin the season with 13 wins and no losses since Roger Clemens won his first 14 decisions for the Boston Red Sox in 1986, Ron Guidry for the Yankees in 1978, Dave McNally 15-0 for the Orioles in 1969, and Johnny Allen who was 15-0 for the 1937 Cleveland Indians.

Scherzer’s second streak

Scherzer is chasing Tony Armas for most career games as a starter without a complete game.
