One run and one-run games

by Bill Chuck on July 25, 2013

There were six games yesterday in which a team was held to one run and there were three one-run games yesterday and one game that was both.

Let’s start by saying the Angels were held to one run last night, but we don’t feel badly for them because they recorded the only shutout of the night as they defeated the Twins, 1-0. And by the way, when we say the “Twins” we are not referring to the two baby girls born yesterday to Joe Mauer and his wife Maddie and newborn Emily and Maren.

Jered Weaver pitched eight innings of two-hit ball and topped Minnesota’s hard-luck loser, Mike Pelfrey who pitched six innings allowing five hits and a run.

There have now been 26 1-0 games this season produced by 15 teams

Matt Garza in his Rangers debut held the Yankees to one (unearned) run. For the Yankees it was the 13th game that they were held to one run this season in a losing effort, one more than all of last season.

Not to ignore one-run games: the Angels, Royals, and Rockies improved their one-run records over the Twins, Orioles, and Marlins respectively.
