Rays walkoff in game featuring 35 strikeouts

Ben Zobrist lined a walkoff single in the 13th enabling the Rays to top the Twins, 4-3.

Tampa won their season-best seventh straight game and moved to a season-best 12 games over .500.

The 4:47 game featured 19 strikeouts by Rays pitchers and 16 by Twins pitchers.

Oswaldo Arcia struck out four times, Justin Morneau three times, and a whole bunch of players struck out twice.

The starters had the most strikeouts with Jeremy Hellickson picking up 8 and Kevin Correia six.

There have now been 52 games this season in which one team’s pitchers threw at least 15 strikeouts.

On July 8, the Giants and Mets pitchers combined for 34 strikeouts in a 16-inning contest and on June 8, the Mets and Marlins combined for 35 whiffs in a 20-inning game.

Mariners pitchers struck out 21 Tigers in a 14-inning 2-1 loss on April 17.
