The Alfonso Soriano Report

by Bill Chuck on July 29, 2013

It was like Old Timers Day at Yankee Stadium as 39-year-old Derek Jeter, 43-year-old Mariano Rivera, 39-year-old Ichiro Suzuki, and 37-year-old Alfonso Soriano each played a significant role in the Yankees 6-5 win over Tampa Bay.

The Yankees were celebrating 39-year-old Hideki Matsui Bobblehead Day and thinking about 45-year-old Tino Martinez who resigned under pressure as the hitting coach of the Marlins, as Tino seemed to be doing more hitting than coaching.

Alfonso Soriano hit his 18th homer of the season and his first homer in his return to the Yankees. His last Yankee homer was September 28, 2003.

Soriano now has 99 Yankee homers (he had 181 with the Cubs) and he now has 390 career blasts as he passed Johnny Bench and tied Graig Nettles for 56th place on the all time homer list.
