Robinson Cano homered for the third straight game, Phil Hughes had an Ultra Quality Start, but the Yankees still needed Mariano Rivera to get the final out of the game and pick up his 27th save in 28 opportunities and the 635th of his career in 709 opportunities.

This was Mariano’s 23rd career save getting one out and facing just one batter.

Mariano Rivera met with behind-the-scenes personnel at Target Field. “They have given me far more than I have given them,” claims Rivera.

It was the 34th career save for Mo against the Twins who gave him a rocking chair made in part from broken bats with the inscription, “Chair of Broken Dreams” as a retirement gift in a pre-game ceremony. With a smile, Rivera said, “I was expecting someone to do something like that with broken bats, but that was, that was awesome. That was great. That was wonderful. Made me laugh a lot.”
