The Phillies (46-47) defeated the Nationals (47-45) last night, 3-1, and are now 7-3 since July 2 to pull within 1.5 games of the second-place Nationals and one game of .500.

Kyle Kendrick picked up the win and and Jonathan Papelbon finished for his 20th save in 24 tries.

This was the eighth time Pap has picked up 20 saves in a season.
