Two Walkoff Homers Sunday

by Bill Chuck on July 22, 2013

Congrats to Mike Napoli who hit two homers yesterday for the Red Sox including an 11th inning walkoff to defeat the Yankees, 8-7, and to Caleb Gindl who hit his first major league homer going deep for the Brewers in the bottom of 13th as Milwaukee defeated the Marlins, 1-0.

Yesterday’s blast were the first two walkoff homers since July 6.

So far this season, 39 players have hit 40 walkoff homers, with Jonny Gomes the only player in the majors with two walkoff homers, hitting them for Boston.

Tommy Hunter and Carlos Marmol are the only pitchers to allow two walkoff homers.

Interestingly, 21 of the 40 walkoffs blasts have been hit in extra innings.
