If there were ever a time when Bryce Harper could help his team with the first walkoff homer of his career this was it.
Washington was staggering and spiraling (not Congress, the team). They were 0-6 since the All-Star break, had fired their hitting coach, and had watched the Pirates, the team the Nationals were supposed to be this season, score four runs in the top of the 9th to tie the score at 7-7.
With two down in the bottom of the 9th, the 20-year old Harper hit a two-run shot over the wall to the left of straightaway center to give Washington a 9-7 win.
There have been 41 walkoff homers this season – 22 teams have hit them and 20 teams have given them up. Jonny Gomes is the only player with two walkoff homers this season.
