Another shutout

by Bill Chuck on August 7, 2013

We are now up to 235 shutouts on the season after Andrew Albers in his MLB debut went 8.1 innings as Minnesota shut out the Royals, 7-0, a day after Kansas City shut out the Twins, 13-0.

What struck me was not the fact that the shutouts keep coming was the range of runs by which the two teams won.

In 2013, there have been

There have been more 3-0 shutouts than by any other score

  • 33 – 1-0 games
  • 41 – 2-0 games
  • 44 – 3-0 games
  • 22 – 4-0 games
  • 25 – 5-0 games
  • 19 – 6-0 games
  • 13 – 7-0 games
  • 9 – 8-0 games
  • 8 – 9-0 games
  • 10 – 10-0 games
  • 3 – 11-0 games
  • 2 – 12-0 games
  • 5 – 13-0 games
  • 0 – 14-0 games
  • 1 – 15-0 games

By the way…

There were seven games last night in which one team was held to one run. That brings the total to 368, the 50th most of any full season since 1916.
