The Alfonso Soriano Report

by Bill Chuck on August 15, 2013

Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-3 last night in the Yankees 11-3 win over the Angels and for the second consecutive night he hit a pair of homers and set a career-high in RBI for a game, last night driving in seven runs after driving in six runs on Tuesday.

So became one of just three players since RBI became an official statistic in 1920 to record at least six RBI in each of two consecutive games, joining Milwaukee’s Geoff Jenkins on 4/28-29/01 (six in each game) and Texas’ Rusty Greer on 8/22-23/97 (six in each game).

This is the third time, and for the third different team, that Soriano has had back-to-back multi-homer games

  • Soriano’s 13 RBI over his last two games is the second-highest total by a single player in consecutive games in Yankee history, trailing only Tony Lazzeri’s 15 RBI from 5/23 G2 – 5/24/1936 at Philadelphia (four RBI and 11 RBI) according to the Elias Sports Bureau .
  • STATS LLC points that his RBI total in consecutive games is the most by any player since the Cubs’ Sammy Sosa had 14 RBI from 8/10-11/2002 (9 RBI and 5 RBI).

With his 23rd and 24th homers of the season, Soriano tied Joe Carter for 54th place on the all time home run list, with 396.
