Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer made a wild throw with two outs in the 9th giving the Reds the opportunity to shockingly score three times off Pittsburgh closer Mark Melancon and tie the game at 5-5. The in the 10th, Joey Votto‘s home run off Kyle Farnsworth gave the Reds a 6-5 victory to move into a tie with the Pirates, two games behind St. Louis for the lead in the NL Central.

Francisco Liriano pitched eight outstanding innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walking three and striking out seven Reds, the last two giving Liriano 1000 and 1001 strikeouts in his career.
