Matt Garza (10-6) picked up his first victory in six starts as the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals, 3-1.

It improved the Rangers record in September games to 5-14 and kept Texas a half-game behind Cleveland for the second AL wild-card berth.

The Royals are now 3.5 games behind the Tribe and were mathematically eliminated from winning the division title.
