The Pittsburgh Pirates 81-win Report

by Bill Chuck on September 4, 2013

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-3, last night and earned their most important victory of the season.

It was victory No. 81 for Pittsburgh.

This means that even if the Bucs lose the rest of their games, they will not finish with a losing record for the first time since it went 96-66 in 1992.

“The one family I’m happy for is the Clemente family,” manager Clint Hurdle told the AP. “They told me earlier in the season that we can’t have 21 losing seasons, that we’ve got to find a way to not have Roberto’s number tied to that. I told them we’d find a way to take care of that. It’s been taken care of.”

Hurdle was referring to Pittsburgh’s great right fielder Roberto Clemente who wore #21 for the Pirates.

It’s a good day for baseball.

20 years of misery come to an end
