With their rookie right-hander Gerrit Cole (7-7) throwing seven scoreless innings with a career-high nine strikeouts, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers, 1-0, clinching their first winning season since 1992 with their 82nd victory of the season.

The Pirates’ streak of 20 straight losing seasons had been the longest streak in any of the four major sports.
