The WAR Around Jayson Werth Report

by Bill Chuck on September 17, 2013

Last evening, I put a piece up on BaseballAnalytics.org on the outstanding last 81 games of the Washington Nationals leader, Jayson Werth.

I am frequently asked about Wins Above Replacement (WAR) and as I always explain, I respect it as a measure of comparison, but I find it unfortunate that it is not something that mere mortals, like myself, can figure out.

As a result, to help all of us better understand WAR, I am choosing a player and then showing comparable WARriors around that player so that we can see in part how to judge a player.

WAR Around Jayson Werth

Not trying to show any disrespect to Marlon Byrd, I just don’t see his equal value to Jayson Werth
