This was supposed to be the year the Washington Nationals won the NL East and went on to meet the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2013 World Series.

And that, my friends, is why we play the season.

The Nationals were mathematically eliminated from winning the division title in their 4-2 loss to the Marlins yesterday and their postseason hopes are hanging on by a thread.
