The first pitcher to make a postseason start on his birthday was Brickyard Kennedy for the Pirates in Game 5 of the 1903 World Series against the Boston Americans, Boston won, 11-2. The winning pitcher was was Cy Young. This is the ninth time Boston has taken a 2-0 lead in a postseason series. In the eight previous instances, the Red Sox have a 5-3 record in Game 3 of the series. In postseason history, teams that have taken a 2-0 lead have a 59-8 series record in best-of-five series. Meaningless stat: Boston is 36-41 (.468) all-time in postseason road games.
