The Vulture Win Report

While some may differ, my definition of a vulture win is when a reliever enters a game in a save situation, blows the lead for the pitcher for whom he was responsible for to preserve the win, and then as a result of the largesse of his team, he is on the mound when the team scores enough so that he picks up the win.

For example, yesterday Mark Melancon entered the game in the 8th inning against the Cardinals with a 3-2 lead and Francisco Liriano looking for a black and gold “W.”

Boom!

Carlos Beltran quickly homered to tie the game and there was the blown save.

But…in the bottom of the 8th, the Bucs score twice and look who gets the vulture win…Mark Melancon.
