Starters with the Most Games allowing at least 5 Runs

by Bill Chuck on June 21, 2016

Allowing five runs in a start is miserable pitching. I don’t really care if all five runs are earned or unearned because unless there were a helluva lot of errors, this was bad pitching.

Topping the list of miserable pitching is Ubaldo Jimenez who as a starter has allowed five runs on seven different occasions (out of 13 starts). Ubaldo also has made one relief appearance (June 17 and allowed five runs to the Blue Jays). Yet even with Jimenez in the rotation, the Orioles are in first place in the AL East by a game over the Red Sox. Boston is bringing Clay Buchholz back into the rotation since he has allowed five runs on only six occasions. Both the Orioles and the Red Sox have had 20 starts of 5+ runs allowed. And it should be noted that last season, Dallas Keuchel, on his way to winning the Cy Young Award allowed 5+ runs on three occasions and this season, he too has done it six times.
